We were at the Andaz Hotel, where directors, producers, and actors (along with alcohol sponsors) gathered to toast the winners of Gotham Independent Film Awards, held earlier that evening at Cipriani’s. We had cornered Mr. Quinto, whose movie Margin Call was nominated for Best Ensemble Performance (though it lost out to Beginners).

“I’m only going to be on one more episode,” the ethereally attractive actor told us.
“But you’re already dead! They can’t kill you off!” (It’s true…Ryan Murphy‘s dead characters have more screen time then the living.)

Mr. Quinto mulled it over while scanning the room for a quick exit strategy. “Sure…I guess dying on that show is more like job security.”

Up until now I’ve been describing American Horror Story as highly watchable garbage. Highly watchable, because of the powerhouse performances Jessica Lange has been delivering each and every week, with her collection of horny ghouls. But garbage, because the family unit and main characters elicit no emotional response whatsoever from the audience. All that changed last night, when Zachary Quinto joined the cast.

In the big two-part Halloween episode, we get to meet the “murder-suicide” gay couple who fixed up the Murder House. But what’s this? Their death was not “murder-suicide” as had been previously stated — there’s a tweeest! Turns out, like everything else in the house stuffed with oversexed spirits, Quinto and his Man were murdered by The Rubber Man!

And according to the rules of Murder House, once you die in this gorgeous Restoration Hardware showroom, your soul is forever doomed to roam the halls, sniffing around for sex and trouble. First off, this is my absolutely favorite death flash so far this season. The completely over-the-top Martha Stewart gay that Quinto was channeling could have been a bloody awful to watch. But thank goodness, Quinto is a very talented actor, and watching his transition from snipping homemaker to intense OCD nut job was wildly entertaining, and actually quite scary. Can we just get rid of the Harmons, and follow around Chad and Patrick?

To read the whole article, go here. It’s not my oppinion, since I like the show, but I couldn’t agree more on her asking to follow around Chad and Patrick.

Next week, there’s a new option with the release of Star Trek Online. Developed by Cryptic Studios, the game will allow fans be the head of their own starship as they travel the universe and battle rival ships and seek out new civilizations. Zachary Quinto, whose role as Spock in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” movie received a shout-out during this week’s iPad presentation, serves as one of the voices in the game.

The finale of the 2009 Las Vegas “Star Trek” convention was an amazing day.

I spent the whole day in the “Gene and Majel Roddenberry Theatre (now once more, the Barron Room.)

The first guest was the new Mr. Spock, Zachary Quinto. Zachary is eloquent and funny. He seems like a very warm young man. He certainly is good on-stage with no script (some actors aren’t.)

He fielded questions from the audience about his part in J.J. Abrams “Star Trek”. How he found out he got the part, (in bed.) What he thought about his fellow actors in the new film (he made jokes about Chris Pine.) It looks like there will be another “Spock, Kirk” competition.

One particularly funny and warm moment was when a fan tried to get her question out and could only babble and cry. She ended up with a hug from Zachary. (I can cry….) Read more

Actor Zachary Quinto, who played Spock in Star Trek, said that while the script for the sequel to the film isn’t finished, the screenwriting process is already underway.

“It’s definitely happening,” Quinto told Newsarama when we spoke to him about the movie. “I know that Bob [Orci] and Alex [Kurtzman] and Damon [Lindelof] and J.J. [Abrams] have been working and talking and developing stories. I don’t think there’s a script yet. I know there’s not a script yet. But they’re working on it and they’re talking about it.”

The actor, who was at San Diego Comic-Con to promote his production company’s foray into comic books with Archaia, said Star Trek filmmakers are taking their time to put together the next film and make sure it’s right, which is fine by him.

“I think the great thing about the experience with the first film is that it really was an organic evolution. And I think that it was rooted in a real sense of creative collaboration and excitement and enthusiasm and support. And I think they want to make sure any subsequent film is rooted in that same territory, in that same landscape,” he said. “So I don’t think anybody’s rushing anything. And I think that’s actually really smart. And I have implicit trust in all those guys creatively and professionally.”

Quinto said he and other cast members are currently able to pursue other projects, although he’s expecting the same ensemble to reunite for the sequel when production begins.

“I know when the time is right and everything falls into the place, the crew shall reassemble for the missions. But until then, we’re all exploring different landscapes and figuring out the best way for us to go creatively as individuals,” he said.

The actor was also at Comic-Con to promote his role as Sylar in the NBC television show Heroes, taking a break from filming last week to attend the convention.

At the end of last season, it appeared that Quinto’s role in the television show might be more limited, since Sylar thinks he’s Nathan Petrelli, which means he’ll be played by actor Adrian Pasdar. But Quinto said that although Sylar’s current situation implies the actor won’t be on the show as much, he’s not backing away from the show.

“There’s definitely going to be Sylar in the fourth season of the show. I actually feel incredibly challenged by the work that I’m doing on the show in a great way. I think they’ve found a really exciting and smart and innovative way to keep the character moving forward and evolving,” he said.

Quinto explained in San Diego that Sylar exists this season not only sharing Nathan’s body, but also appears within the mind of Greg Grunberg’s character, Matt Parkman, “messing with his mind a little bit, giving him a taste of his own medicine.”

“One of the problems of playing a villain that is as archetypal as Sylar, you kind of paint yourself into a corner. There’s only so much skull-slicing and evil staring that you can do and still have it be creatively fulfilling for an audience or for an actor,” Quinto said. “So I feel really great with the stuff they’ve given me this year because it really starts to take me into different territories in an organic way, and it doesn’t feel contrived. It’s a real nice springboard from where last season ended to where this season begins, and I’ve been hard at work. So I haven’t let up on it yet.”

You could say that Pittsburgh native Zachary Quinto is the face of the new “Star Trek.” Or, at least, the distinctive ears, eyebrows and haircut, which have been everywhere of late.

As Spock or as himself, Quinto joined the “Today” show gang in the morning, charmed David Letterman in late night, appeared on the cover of Entertainment Weekly and inside the pages of Playboy, and rocked the red or black carpet outside theaters from Sydney to London to Hollywood.

When he gets on the phone from Los Angeles for a 10-minute interview (the bigger the movie, the smaller the slice of the publicity pie), he effortlessly switches on a flawless Pittsburgh accent. “What’s going on in the ‘Burgh?” Read more…

And an exclusive interview made by TrekMovie.com:

TrekMovie: Let’s assume a sequel happens, as an actor, what would you to do and see with the character?

Quinto: Ultimately I really have such implicit trust with the creative team of this movie, and would hopefully be the same creative team for the next movie and I know Bob [Orci] and Alex [Kurtzman] and Damon [Lindelof] are going to write the next one if we do one — it is hard for me to say. They have taken us in some really great directions and they set us up to have some really great adventures, and I think exploring the relationships among the crew. I would be really interested to see what happens with Uhura and Spock, if anything. But ultimately my job is to go where they take me. And to the extent that they are interested in my input I am happy to give it, but I haven’t been really asked by them so I feel sort of presumptuous. Read more…

What’s your dream role right now?
Everybody’s asking me this now. I’m not there yet. I’ve been so busy working on the show, I’ve had no time to entertain other ideas or other movies right now, so I’m just sort of taking it as it comes. I’m not in that zone yet. I’m sure I will be again. I’ll call you when I am. You can write a special article about my next project.
