May6| Interviews, to read

Added a few recent online interviews, with more to come, just need some time to sort, and insert here all of it.

MTV.com – Zachary Quinto Isn’t Taking ‘Star Trek’ For Granted
Parade – Zachary Quinto’s ‘Spock’ Eyebrow Agony
Sci-Fi Wire – Trek’s Zachary Quinto dishes Spock’s future and deleted scenes

And an exclusive interview made by TrekMovie.com:

TrekMovie: Let’s assume a sequel happens, as an actor, what would you to do and see with the character?

Quinto: Ultimately I really have such implicit trust with the creative team of this movie, and would hopefully be the same creative team for the next movie and I know Bob [Orci] and Alex [Kurtzman] and Damon [Lindelof] are going to write the next one if we do one — it is hard for me to say. They have taken us in some really great directions and they set us up to have some really great adventures, and I think exploring the relationships among the crew. I would be really interested to see what happens with Uhura and Spock, if anything. But ultimately my job is to go where they take me. And to the extent that they are interested in my input I am happy to give it, but I haven’t been really asked by them so I feel sort of presumptuous. Read more…

May4| Buzzine.com interview

Zach as Spock

Emmanuel Itier at Buzzine.com did a good interview with Zach, in which he talks about Star Trek (course), but also about his expectations on next projects.

What’s your dream role right now?
Everybody’s asking me this now. I’m not there yet. I’ve been so busy working on the show, I’ve had no time to entertain other ideas or other movies right now, so I’m just sort of taking it as it comes. I’m not in that zone yet. I’m sure I will be again. I’ll call you when I am. You can write a special article about my next project.

May1| Magazine alert: Entertainment Weekly

May 08, 2009Zachary as Spock is on the cover of Entertainment Weekly. There are two covers this week – one featuring Zach, and one featuring Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana. This is Zachary’s fourth cover for EW.

I’ll posting scans soon, but for now you can read the article in our press archive:

Everyone is right where they should be. Chekov and Sulu are manning the navigation controls, Uhura’s monitoring communications, and pointy-eared Mr. Spock is hovering over his science station. But standing on the set in front of the ship’s blank viewscreen (planets and stars will be digitally added later) is an all-powerful being capable of destroying the U.S.S. Enterprise and the entire United Federation of Planets. Or, for that matter, saving it. No, it’s not Khan. It’s a guy in chunky eyewear peering into a video monitor.

Apr30| Zachary Quinto on How Spock Avoids Swine Flu

Next weekend, J.J. Abrams’s rebooted Star Trek beams into theaters to sear your corneas and un-sully the reputation of geeky, space-based megafranchises. Much has been made of Trek’s sexy new cast, and nobody’s getting more attention than new Spock Zachary Quinto. Two nights ago, we ran into him at the after-party for the Broadway revival of Eugene O’Neill’s Desire Under the Elms, starring Quinto’s college buddy Pablo Schreiber (brother of Liev). Quinto answered our questions about the movie, then dropped some Vulcan wisdom on us that just might save your life.

The Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage” is played in the movie. Is that really something a member of Starfleet would listen to?
Oh yeah. Spock just loves the Beastie Boys. I think Kirk loves them, too.

Apr30| Spock Talk: 9 Qs With Quinto and Nimoy

Were you happy with Zach’s take on the character?
Nimoy: I think that he made some choices that I thought were wonderful surprises to me, in playing the Spock that he played in this film. We did not talk about specifics, like, “Do this” or “Don’t do that.” We had very general conversations about the philosophy of the character, the psychology of the character, the philosophy of Star Trek, the fans’ reactions to various aspects of Star Trek. But, there were no specific instructions; there was no need for that, there was no call for that. But watching him in the film, I’m very proud of what he did. I loved the idea that he is doing the character, that he did it so well. And I think we have book-ended the character; he has created a Spock that comes before the Spock that I portrayed in the series, and I’m playing a Spock that comes much, much later and much more resolved. And is, I think, much closer to who I actually am today.

J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek takes your familiar crewmembers places they’ve never been before – including one love story that will forever alter the crew’s dynamic. We asked writers Orci and Kurtzman about it. Beware spoilers!

If you’ve been following the movie’s press lately, you’ll already be aware that the film’s big love story is between Spock and Uhura. We know, some of you are running from this scary change right now, but before you grab your phaser rifles, we went directly to writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, and asked them about it.
